Andrée Chedid 1920–2011

by flambardblog

The remarkable French writer Andrée Chedid passed away on 6 February 2011, at the age of 90. Born in Egypt to Lebanese parents, Madame Chedid was a truly multi-cultural writer whose work included short fiction, drama and novels such as From Sleep Unbound and The Return to Beirut.

Flambard was fortunate to be offered a collection of Chedid’s short stories, expertly translated by Suzanne Hinton, and Between the Worlds was published in 2007. We were proud to publish these stories for the first time in English, and I remember how struck I was by the intimacy and elegance of the writing the first time I read them.
